Seniors & Persons with Disabilities

young woman in wheelchair Often seniors and persons with disabilities are unable to drive due to a physical and/or cognitive disability.  This may limit their mobility but not their desire to be involved in the community!  While many seniors and persons with disabilities use regular fixed-route buses with great success, there are several options for those who cannot.  These include the City of Irvine’s TRIPS program, Orange County Transportation Authority’s (OCTA) county-wide ACCESS service and the non-profit Age Well Senior Services Transportation Program, as well as several others.  Click the links to the right to learn more about these specialized programs.

The City of Irvine also publishes a City Mobility Guide for seniors and special needs individuals.  Download the City Mobility Guide by clicking here.

Each iShuttle bus is lift-equipped and can accommodate up to two wheelchairs. All OCTA buses, FlyAway buses, and Metrolink trains are also accessible to persons with disabilities.

Discounted Fares

OCTA offers discounted fares for seniors age 65 and older, including cash fares, day passes and multi-day passes. You’ll need to show a valid driver’s license, California DMV identification card, Medicare card or OCTA senior reduced fare identification card as proof of age.  Click here to learn more about OCTA’s senior programs.

If you have a disability, you may qualify for discounted fares as well. You’ll need to show an OCTA disabled reduced fare identification card, Medicare card, Department of Veteran Affairs Disabled Veteran card, Braille Institute card, OCTA ACCESS card, another transit agency’s persons with disabilities card or a customer receipt copy for a DMV Disabled Person Placard.  Visit OCTA's website for more information on OCTA’s reduced fixed-route fares.

Metrolink also offers discounted fares to seniors and persons with disabilities.  Get more information on discounted fares by visiting Metrolink’s website or calling 800-371-LINK (5465).
