Irvine, CA – A "car-hopping" suspect has been arrested by the Irvine Police Department (IPD). Garrett Martelli, 29, of Yorba Linda, was arrested for burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. today, June 15, 2016, IPD officers responded to the 2800 block of Kelvin Avenue after a witness reported a man checking car door handles. Responding officers located the suspect in a parking structure and detained him after a brief foot pursuit.

Officer determined that Martelli was checking car doors in an effort to steal property from unlocked vehicles. The suspect was also determined to be under the influence of drugs. He was arrested at the scene without incident.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect had an outstanding warrant for theft-related charges.

IPD reminds residents to “Remove It or Lose It.”  Please remove property from plain sight and always lock car doors.
