Support Our Troops by Recycling Your Aluminum Cans!

8/31/2010

The City of Irvine is participating in the national Cans for Cash Recycling Challenge from October 1-29.  Irvine residents, schools and businesses are encouraged to participate by depositing aluminum cans in curbside recycling containers or by taking the cans directly to the Waste Management Recycling Center located at 16122 Construction Circle East in Irvine (Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Last year, Irvine won the "Most Innovative Campaign" for cities of a similar size, and received a $5,000 cash prize, which was donated to the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee. With the continued help of Irvine community, the City is seeking to repeat last year's results and will once again donate reward money to the City's adopted Marine Battalion from Camp Pendleton and their families.

Created by The United States Conference of Mayors and Novelis Corporation, the contest challenges cities across the country to collect the most aluminum beverage cans and develop innovative ideas for promoting participation.  For more information about participating in the recycling challenge, call 949-724-7522 or visit City of Irvine Environmental Programs.
