In Remembrance of the September 11th Terror Attacks

On Friday, September, 9^th, Irvine Valley College held its annual remembrance in observance of the 10-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001. The tragic events of 9/11 resulted in the loss of 2,993 people from 115 different countries. It is a day of special importance and reflection for first responders as 60 members of law enforcement and 351 firefighters and paramedics were killed.  The keynote speakers at the event were Chief Maggard and Orange County Sherriff Hutchens, Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Moore, and the Irvine Honor Guard were on-hand to present the Colors.

City of Irvine, Northwood Park

On Sunday, September 11th, the City of Irvine held a “Day of Remembrance” commemorating the 10^th anniversary of 9/11 at the Gratitude and Honor Memorial at Northwood Park.  Mayor Kang, Chief Maggard and Orange County Fire Authority Chief Richter were among the featured speakers who paid tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who perished on September 11, 2001, including the 343 firefighters and 60 members of law enforcement. Irvine Honor Guard members, Meyer, Indelicato, McLaughlin, and Larson presented the Colors and Detective Miller performed the National Anthem.  The invocation was provided by Irvine Police Chaplain Winans and Orange County Fire Authority Chaplain Hetschel.  Several members of Command Staff also attended the Day of Remembrance.

Faith Based Organizations

Lieutenant Whalen, Sergeant Gielish, Officers Brouwer and Cantwell attended a 9/11 remembrance at the Moment Church located on Teller Avenue.  The congregation took the opportunity to thank and recognize the men and women of the Irvine Police Department. The remembrance was also attended by congregation members associated with Concordia University who presented Lieutenant Whalen with a poster inscribed with personal messages of thanks and gratitude. 

Chief Maggard, Commander Hamel, Lieutenant Engen and Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Moore attended a 9/11 remembrance ceremony held at Christ our Redeemer Church in Irvine.
