Foam to Surfboard Recycling Drive

March 1-31

3/1/2012

The City of Irvine Junior Youth Action Team is teaming up with Sustainable Surf to support the "Waste to Waves" recycling campaign, a program centered on recycling waste packaging into new, “eco-friendlier” surfing products.

From March 1-31, the JYAT will be accepting used, “styrofoam” packing waste, which “Waste to Waves” will collect and turn into new, surfboard
blanks, thus reducing the amount of waste going into landfills and possibly the ocean.

Only clean, white packing “styrofoam,” such as the foam material used to protect fragile goods, like electronics, televisions and furniture, can be recycled. Contaminated food containers, foam “peanuts,” broken surfboards and foam that is flexible, soft or rubbery cannot be accepted.

Drop off locations in Irvine:

  • Deerfield Community Park – 55 Deerwood West
  • Heritage Park Community Center – 14301 Yale Avenue
  • Turtle Rock Community Park – 1 Sunnyhill
  • University Community Park – 1 Beech Tree Lane
  • Woodbury Community Park – 130 Sanctuary
