Sunday Morning Wilderness Walk

The City of Irvine, in cooperation with the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve Trust, is hosting the fourth Sunday Morning Wilderness Walk. Hicks Canyon is a protected wilderness area and participation is limited to not more than 40 participants per day, with no more than 20 participants allowed on the wilderness trail at any one time. The public is invited to participate in one of the two following ways:

1. Self-Guided Option – Participants can access the wilderness walk at the Wilderness Walk Staging Area just off the Old Haul Service Road (Jeffrey Road, see directions below). Parking is available at the Wilderness Walk Staging Area. Participants will need to sign in at the trailhead prior to accessing the trail. No more than 20 participants will be allowed on the wilderness trail at any one time.

  • Mileage – out and back 2 miles
  • Duration – Approximately 1 hour
  • Recommended Age – 10+
  • Level of Interpretation – Trail notes will be available

2. Cardio Conditioning Hike Option – Participants can also access the wilderness walk by joining a docent led cardio conditioning hike. The cardio conditioning hike will stage at Hicks Community Park at 8 a.m. (see directions below, meet in front of restroom building). This fast paced hike will follow the Hicks Canyon Trail through Northwood Village and up the Old Haul Service Road before beginning the wilderness portion of the walk. Pre-registration is required (949-724-6738) for the cardio conditioning hike.

  • Mileage – roundtrip approximately 6 miles
  • Duration – Approximately 2 hours
  • Recommended Age – 12+
  • Level of Interpretation - Light

In the event of rain, the Wilderness Walk will be canceled.
