Habitat Restoration Project

Volunteers needed!

On Sunday, January 22nd from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve Trust, in cooperation with the City of Irvine, is hosting a habitat restoration project in Irvine’s Open Space Preserve South. The Trust needs volunteers to help with the planting of costal sage scrub in areas recently disturbed during trail repair.

No experience is necessary but work will involve physical labor including digging holes and lifting. Volunteers should be in good physical shape and free of neck, back, or shoulder injury. Lunch will be provided and a hike will be offered at the conclusion of the project. Please RSVP by emailing rgragnano@irlrtrust.org or call (714) 508-4760. Driving Directions

  • From Culver Avenue, turn left onto Shady Canyon Road (formerly Bonita Canyon Road) and drive 1.2 miles.
  • You will see the Bommer Canyon street sign marking the turn.  Turn right; the speed limit is 16mph.
  • Follow 0.8 of a mile until you reach the buildings.
  • Park on the left, away from the picnic area.
