Toy Drive to Benefit Military Families

11/9/2009

The City of Irvine, together with the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee, is holding a special toy drive this holiday season to benefit the children and families of Irvine's adopted Marine battalion from Camp Pendleton. Help make the season brighter for a child whose mom or dad is deployed by donating a new, unwrapped gift suitable for children ages 3-12.

Beginning November 9, toy drive containers will be placed in the lobbies of the Irvine Civic Center and Irvine Police Department, located at 1 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine. Donations will be accepted through December 4 and distributed to service member's families during a special holiday program.

The 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division (2/11) was officially adopted by the City of Irvine on September 15, 2007. Comprised of roughly 750 Marines and Sailors, the 155mm howitzer battalion's primary mission is direct support to the 5th Marine Regiment in time of conflict.

For additional toy drive information, contact Brittany Hale, 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee Chair, at 949-230-4406.
