City of Irvine Healthy Food Drive

12/2/2008

Now through Wednesday, December 31

The City of Irvine is trying to help families start the new year off in a healthy way by collecting 2,009 food items for local food pantry programs. Now through December 31, residents can drop off canned food items at any city facility between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Collected items will be donated to three Irvine-based food banks that provide food programs year round: AIDS Services Foundation, Families Forward and The Society of St. Vincent De Paul Orange County.

Although no items will be turned away, the program’s focus is on the following food items:

  • Canned fruits
  • Canned juices (bottles/cans)
  • Canned soups
  • Rice
  • Cereals
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned proteins (fish, chicken, meat, etc.)
  • Jelly/Jam
  • Peanut butter
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Pasta mixes/rice mixes
