The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:
Wall of Recognition | | Rev. Dr. Charles Manske | | First President, Concordia University 1973-1979 | | In a single building surrounded by open fields, Christ College Irvine (CCI) opened its doors in 1976. The college's first president and faculty member was Rev. Dr. Charles Manske. In September 1976, Dr. Manske, along with four other faculty members, Rev. Dr. Martin Schramm, Rev. Dr. Shang Ik Moon, Mr. Dale Hartmann and Rev. Dr. Robert Holst, welcomed the first students, a total enrollment of thirty-six. The classrooms, administrative offices and living quarters were contained in a single building called the Living-Learning Center. In 1979, after seven years of working to establish Christ College Irvine, Dr. Manske returned to the classroom as a professor of religion and was director of Graduate Studies in Religion until his retirement in 1998. |
