Al Brandt
In Memoriam
Al Brandt was a longtime community leader in Irvine. He was born in Indiana and spent the last 40 years of his life in Irvine. Al moved to Irvine in June 1967 to one of the first single-family homes in University Park. As a former engineer and land developer, Brandt took a fancy to the master-planned community. He was active in efforts that led to Irvine's cityhood. In 1970, he oversaw the planning and construction of University Community Association's community center. In the 1980s, he was appointed to the city's Senior Council, where he served until his death. Also in the '80s, Brandt became a regular at ballroom dance classes. The cha-cha, foxtrot and waltz became second nature for him. Al Brandt died February 20, 2008. He was 92.
