The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:
| Wall of Recognition | | | Gary Alan Norton | | | Distinguished Citizen | | | Gary Norton was an original member of the initial University High School staff when the school opened in 1970. He served as the Assistant Principal with distinction and honor, and he was instrumental in leading the school, and subsequently the entire Irvine Unified School District, to achieve National and International recognition. During his tenure as Principal of Irvine High School for more than 11 years, he assisted the school in being awarded Honors and Distinguished School Status as well as being primarily responsible for Irvine High School attaining state championship in Volleyball, as well as honors in football and other athletics. He contributed to the improvement of relationships between the school and the community, school-parental involvement and was recognized by many for his contributions to civic and local social groups. His legacy is that of the superior level of education for which the Irvine Unified School District is known. |
