Honoree

The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:

Wall of Recognition
Jim McAleer
Distinguished Citizen
Jim McAleer, the President and CEO of the Alzheimers Association Orange County Chapter (AAOC) since 2004, has exhibited a significant commitment to the local community where over 83,000 residents have, or are at high risk of developing, Alzheimers or a related dementia. Under his tireless leadership, the Irvine based chapter has grown into a $4 million a year nonprofit, and has more than doubled the number of Orange County residents it supports. Mr. McAleers strategy for success is making it a priority to empower his staff to create and deliver a broad range of programs and services beneficial and necessary to support Orange Countys needs. In 2013, the local chapter received $27 million, the largest bequest in the national Alzheimers Associations history. He led the development of the allocation of these funds giving a significant portion to the national association; support to local and national research; and providing for increased current and future local services and support. In addition, AAOC recently purchased, and is in the process of refurbishing, a significant Irvine business property. This purchase will support the planned chapter growth and further cement AAOCs commitment to the City. In his leadership capacity, Mr. McAleer never fails to take the time to make a personal connection to those who reach out to him. He spends countless hours directing constituents to the proper resources and ensures the appropriate person on his team is tasked with following through on whatever is needed. The true compassion and care that he provides is a rare characteristic. Mr. McAleer has served on the Cal Optima Board, the Orange County Aging Service Collaborative, and is the Treasurer for Friends of El Faro, a nonprofit that raises money to help clothe, feed, and take care of over 100 children residing at an orphanage in Tijuana. He also participates in the local business community by reaching out to and networking with other leaders in the nonprofit area.
