The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:
Wall of Recognition | | Community Partner | | South Coast Chinese Cultural Association | | In 2001, dedicated parents and community supporters of South Coast Chinese Cultural Association (SCCCA), founded in 1977, and the Irvine Chinese School (ICS), founded in 1976, set a goal to build the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center. With a clear vision, insight, and sheer determination, volunteers mounted an extraordinary effort and raised $6.8 million to make the dream become a reality. On April 24, 2005, SCCCA held the grand opening ceremony of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center with a mission to Promote Chinese Language Learning; to Preserve Chinese Heritage; to Enhance the Understanding of the Values of the Chinese Culture; and to Advocate Culture Diversity in America. The ICS has over 1,200 students and a broad spectrum of classes offered at the Center. In 2013 they collaborated with the Irvine Public Schools Foundation to provide Chinese Language classes in Irvine public schools. ICS has received two significant awards: The South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, located in Irvine, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2013. Known for its remarkable Chinese School, the Center stands as a vibrant institution for celebrating Chinese culture, education and a commitment to building a genuinely multicultural City. |
